Another MGM catalog DVD find here, and a big part of my childhood years. It's a great fish out of water story with the boujee social beach club setting, gin rummy, Fisher Stevens, so much texture and authenticity to everything. Great to finally have this in the collection.

I was holding out for the Warner Archive Blu-ray, but since I saw this on a newer DVD release for a dollar I had to pick it up. Now I can put the remaining $12-14 on something like a used Criterion. Yet another childhood favorite that I need to revisit.

Stoked to finally have this in the collection, I found it as a "totally awesome" 80s double feature with Teen Witch. Could care less about Teen Witch but Heavenly Kid was one of those movies that played daily on HBO back in my childhood days (along with Just One of the Guys and many others). This was a great find, and saved me some money not having to buy the Blu-ray.

I've been a fan of Brazilian cinema since the boom that followed City of God in the early 2000's and in recent years sadly distribution has been lacking. To show my support I did a blind buy on this from Kino Lorber and it just didn't work for me. It kind of departs from traditional Brazilian film storytelling in favor of something more allegorical, more Bunuel. On the one hand I could see why this got such warm reviews as it is very leftfield and different, but I found it to be a bit of a mess and not really clear what the point of it all was.

Everything great that's been said about this movie I could easily get from watching any of the Mission Impossibles (ie, entertaining, action packed, etc). I just thought the whole thing was very bland, with laughable dialogue and predictable writing. The final mission is something we've seen in every Star Wars movie or summer blockbuster. They should just continue to pump out more of these because it's basically the same reason we have ten Fast & Furiousesess.
